Larus — Use Cases
Strix.Monitor: SCADA Replacement
Challenge: Modernize APCS by replacing legacy Western PLCs and SCADA with a Russian stack without production shutdown.
Solution: Larus-100 (control logic) + Strix (visualization and alerts)
Replacement scheme:
"Before": "After":
Siemens S7-400 Larus-100
Profibus DP Modbus RTU / EtherNet/IP
WinCC SCADA Strix.Monitor
Parallel operation strategy:
- Install Larus-100 alongside the existing PLC (Larus as OPC UA Client)
- Migrate logic block by block, test in shadow mode
- Switch control to Larus-100 during scheduled maintenance
- Remove old PLC
Example: Highlandgold (mining complex)
- Replaced Yokogawa CENTUM VP with Larus-100 + Strix
- Flotation and thickening APCS
- 340 I/O points, 12 PID loops
- Implementation timeline: 6 months
Thermal Processing APCS
Challenge: Control thermal furnaces (annealing, quenching, tempering) with precise temperature profile management.
Solution: Larus-100 + AI-8 modules (K-type thermocouples) + DO16 (burner control)
Implemented functions:
- PID control for each zone
- Programmable temperature profiles (heat/soak/cool curves)
- Deviation alerts, event logging
- OPC UA server for MES/1C integration
Gas Distribution APCS
Challenge: Monitoring and control of a gas distribution substation.
Solution: Larus-100 (control) + Larus-10 (remote point monitoring) + Strix
Key features:
- Autonomous operation (connection loss → local emergency logic)
- Redundancy: hot standby Larus-100 (Active/Standby)
- Integration with SCADA dispatch (OIK) via IEC 60870-5-104
Test Benches
Challenge: Automate test bench data acquisition with high-speed collection and deterministic control.
Solution: Larus-100 (control + synchronized acquisition) + Passer-V2 (vibration)
Real-time requirements:
- Larus-100 with Forte provides FB execution cycle down to 1 ms (1 kHz)
- PTP synchronization with Passers (±1 μs)
- Deterministic emergency protection (<10 ms from event to shutdown)
Digital Transformation: Unified Stack
"From sensor to APC" concept:
Unified stack advantage:
- One vendor = one accountability
- No compatibility issues between levels
- Unified support SLA
- Compliance with FSTEC / CSII requirements for CII
